South East Market Town Awards 2009

Faringdon ECOWEEK win Regional Heat in South East Market Towns Awards

Members of Faringdon Area Project’s ECOWEEK Team are celebrating after winning through to the National Finals of the Action For Market Towns Awards 2009.

Many diverse and inspiring projects from across the South East of England were entered for this year’s awards and the four category winners were presented with their regional award by Richard Dick, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire and Julian Owen of South East Rural Towns Partnership at Sudbury House Hotel in Faringdon.

For the presentation, Faringdon ECOWEEK, who won the Social and Community award, were joined by Wireless Godalming, winners of the Business & Economy award; Butterfly Garden, Hythe & Dibden who won the Environment and Culture award and the Caterham meets Storrington  who won the Partnership & Stategic Working award.

Faringdon ECOWEEK comprised of a raft of low carbon events for all ages and interests and covering waste, food energy, environment and even set a new world record for wind turbine hugging on Mid-Summers Day!

Being named as the Overall South east winner came as a huge surprise for the ECOWEEK team who organised the event in June 2008. The team was led by Sjoerd Vogt, who thanked everyone who was involved in the events. He said that they are hoping to make this a bi-annual event and the planning is already beginning for ECOWEEK 2010.
